Our Concern and Priority Contribution
Estimating and utilizing the optimum benefits that fisheries and aquaculture resources could provide could be aligned with the community, state, national-wide, and global interests, aiming for sustainable development goals. We acknowledged the use of advanced technology in fisheries and aquaculture, while also recognizing the persistent gap in technology and knowledge. This is a global issue that necessitates increased collaboration, with the scientific community being the primary entity responsible for addressing it and reducing any potential regional knowledge gaps. The Department of Fisheries UGM is eager to find a solution to this global problem.
Land and sea are not segregated environments, and they influence each other. The tragedy of the common, particularly the coastal area, has confronted us in recent times. The intrusion of seawater into the groundwater, land subsidence, and periodic floods are signs of environmental degradation, which has intensified due to climate change. This has left the coastal community, particularly small fishers and fish growers, vulnerable. A healthy environment and growing global awareness of the problem prompt us to invite more collaborators to contribute to academic discussions and brainstorming sessions, with the aim of devising strategies for Indonesia and its neighboring countries to establish a resilient fisheries community and system. Through this event, we invite you not only to participate in the discussion, but also to facilitate a workshop and potential collaboration between countries in addressing the issues.
